How to install Lightroom presets

If you edit photos on your phone, you will know that there are a lot of different Lightroom presets available right now. They make it easy for you to edit on the go while still having really high quality, consistent photos that fit your aesthetic. But the big question is, how do you actually install them? I'm here to show you a super easy way to do that (because I'm a problem-solver and I kinda like you 😉).

And if you haven't heard of Lightroom, it's usually used on the computer but guesssss what? The mobile version is *F*R*E*E* and literally the best thing to happen to our smartphones as we edit photos.

Step 1: Download Your Presets

Once you've bought the presets (I have six to choose from already! Which is your fav?), make sure to download them and save them to Files (or whatever the equivalent is for you Android users). Pick the folder that has the preset you want to use and open it up.

Step 2: Export an Individual Preset

Pick the photo and click on the three dots underneath the name for the menu to pop up.

From the menu, search for either export or share - it may vary depending on your phone and Lightroom version. Click share/export and select export file, then save the image to your camera roll. Now, here's the tricky part: when you open the file, you will see that it's blank. But don't worry, that's how it's supposed to be because the file type for Lightroom presets is .dng, so it won't show up as a normal photo.

The magic happens when you import that image into Lightroom. You can do this either by going to straight into the app or import the image from your camera roll.

Step 3: Launch Lightroom

Find the image you just imported. If you check any of the settings down at the bottom, you'll see that all of them have been pre-configured for you so you don't have to do it yourself. Pretty cool huh?

Step 4: Save the New Preset

Now all you need to do is click on the three dots in the top right hand corner and you'll see a menu come up.

Select create preset and either add the title of the preset or make up a name that makes sense to you. And you're done!

Step 5: Test it out!

Go back to your imported photos within Lightroom and pick one you want to experiment with. Open it and go to presets. There, find the preset you want to use and select it.

And there you have it! Export the edited photo to your camera roll and it'll be ready to post on your socials (and while you're there, make sure to tag me @thepigeonletters so I can see your results - I CAN'T WAIT!)
